How long will it take for my first jump?

People making a tandem skydive should plan on spending half a day at the drop zone.
Students making static line and advanced freefall jumps should plan for a full day.

What should I wear when I come to make a jump?

Comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. Summer at the DZ can be hot and sunny so don't forget a good sunscreen.

What about weather conditions at the drop zone (DZ)?

Static Line and Advanced Freefall ground school classes meet rain or shine. For actual jumps, high winds (14 MPH for student jumps), low cloud cover, rain or approaching storm systems can postpone jumping activity. Please call ahead at (319) 472-4975 if the weather is questionable. Click here for the current weather for our area.

What kind of parachute will we use?

Our parachutes are state-of-the-art "square" parachutes as opposed to the round parachutes used in the early days of the sport. These modern parachute designs allow for more safety and control allowing people to often make "tip-toe" landings.

What are the age requirements of skydiving?

Anyone participating in skydiving activities at Paradise Skydives, Inc. must be at least 18 years old. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone and this can not be negotiated.

What should I bring with me to the DZ?

Items to include for your day at the DZ are: picture ID, cash/credit cards/checks, comfortable clothing for the weather, athletic shoes, something to snack on, something to drink, lawn chair, binoculars for viewing jumpers from the ground.

For experienced skydivers please bring a picture ID, your logbook, USPA card, and your reserve in date.

Do I need to be an athlete to skydive?

You do not need to be an athlete to skydive, individuals in good health and under 225 lbs. are all that is required. Jumpers with disabilities can also be accommodated. Please call ahead to talk with an instructor if you have a disability that requires an accommodation.

What about bringing pets and children at the DZ?

The drop zone is located at a municipal airport so local ordinances regarding pets must be observed. All pets and children need to be under supervision by a responsible adult at all times for their safety.
